Yury Titovich Shutov was born on March, 16, 1946 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Shipbuilding Institute. He worked as a mechanic at a plant, as a driver, as a bulldozer operator at Kolyma river and Chukotka peninsula. After graduation he was a section engineer in Glavleningradstroy [the Main Department for Construction in Leningrad], as a director of a number of enterprises, as the first assistant of the chief of Central Statistics Department of Leningrad city and region.
In 1981 he was arrested by an absurd charge, later completely acquitted and rehabilitated by trial. After his release he worked as a chief mechanic, as a director of an industrial association. We worked as an advisor of the Leningrad Council Chairman A.A.Sobchak. Later he wrote the book “Sobchak’s Heart” devoted to development of “democratic” corruption in Leningrad. After publication of his first book an attempt was taken to murder him, later he was arrested by a deliberately false charge. The trial acquitted Shutov again having considered the charges pointed against him fabricated.
In 1993 he published his new book – “Sobchak’s Dodger Story, or How Everybody Was Robbed” in which he continued describing the life of the city and the country corrupted leadership.
Until 1999 he led the regional commission of the State Duma for control of privatization results in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region and responsibility of officials for its negative results, he revealed numerous facts of state property misappropriation. During the commission work direct relation of the city prosecutor office leadership represented by the city prosecutor Sydoruk and his assistant to plunder of city enterprises and plants was revealed. Shutov began to demand fearlessly to bring high officials to responsibility. Being elected a deputy of the Legislative Assembly from Kalininsky area he enhanced essentially his demands for compensation of damage to the state inflicted by the city prosecutor Sydoruk and his assistant Vinnichenko but soon he was thereupon arrested himself by them and deliberately falsely accused of many crimes he certainly had not committed.
On November, 16, 1999 a drama has occurred in the court hall of the Kalininsky federal district court before the eyes of TV viewers of all the planet. The judge Petrenko dismayed with lawlessness and the prosecutor office has fearlessly released the writer from custody. At once people wearing masks and armed with automatic rifles crushed into the hall and started beating Shutov, then seized him and took him to an undisclosed location. So, the legislative body deputy appeared to be in prison again.
On February, 17, 2006 Yury Shutov was sentenced to the supreme penalty – to life imprisonment. Thorough analysis of the criminal case has shown that Yury Titovich’s accusation was fabricated and deliberately false. Time will come for his name to be rehabilitated.
